The 5 Big Changes to Southwest Rapid Rewards You Can’t Miss

Introduction

Following the COVID-19 pandemic, travel underwent a profound transformation.

Travelers were confronted with a new set of challenges, from navigating evolving health and safety regulations to dealing with reduced flight options and uncertainty.

The dynamics of travel also shifted as more people sought leisure trips, and the need for adaptability became paramount.

Southwest Airlines, a long-standing favorite among travelers, recognized these challenges and set out to enhance the post-pandemic travel experience with a series of significant updates.

The airline is famous for its no-nonsense approach: no change fees, two free checked bags, and Rapid Rewards points that you can actually use.

But, with the changing travel landscape with more leisure travelers than business travelers, Southwest has cooked up some upgrades to better accommodate you.

In a world where other airlines are playing hard-to-get with perks, Southwest is charting a different course.

So, if you’re a Southwest Rapid Rewards member, here are some exciting updates for you!

The Game-Changing Rapid Rewards 2024 Upgrades

Southwest’s commitment to improving the post-pandemic customer travel experience is evident in the significant changes they’ve unveiled.

  1. Redeem Cash + Points – Starting in Spring 2024, you’ll have the added flexibility to pay for your flight using a combination of cash and points. You can begin with as few as 1,000 points.

  2. Faster Tier Status with Credit Card Spending – Starting from January 1, 2024, they’re cutting the spend requirement in half for tier qualifying points bonuses. With every $5,000 spent on your Rapid Rewards Premier, Premier Business, Priority, or Performance Business Credit Card, you’ll earn 1,500 tier points toward A-List and A-List Preferred status.
  3.  Easier A-List Status – From January 1, 2024, you’ll only need 20 one-way qualifying flights or 35,000 tier qualifying points in a calendar year to earn A-List status and enjoy all the perks that come with it.

  4. Simplified A-List Preferred – Achieving A-List Preferred status is now easier than ever. Starting January 1, 2024, you’ll need just 40 one-way qualifying flights or 70,000 tier qualifying points to earn A-List Preferred status. Enjoy perks like priority boarding and complimentary inflight Wi-Fi too.

  5. Two FREE Premium Drinks for A-List Preferred Members – A-List Preferred Members can also enjoy up to two complimentary premium drinks per flight, starting from November 6, 2023. Cheers to that!
